List of Master Sommeliers
Section titled “List of Master Sommeliers”If you need a list of Master Sommeliers, use official directories rather than copied lists on blogs or forums. Names, eligibility status, teaching status, suspensions, resignations, and public directories can change. A static list is useful for orientation, but it is not the source of truth.
For U.S. candidates, the first place to check is the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas Master Sommelier Directory. CMS-A also provides a Sommelier Lookup tool for verifying certain sommelier certifications. For global context, the Court of Master Sommeliers Europe member page is another useful official reference.
Why lists differ online
Section titled “Why lists differ online”Online lists disagree because they answer different questions:

| How many people have passed? | This can include all historical passers across Courts. |
| Who is currently listed? | Some people may not appear because of eligibility, suspension, resignation, or directory policy. |
| Who can teach or examine? | That status may require additional current requirements beyond having passed the Diploma. |
| Which chapter are they associated with? | Americas and Europe maintain different pages and programs. |
That is why you should avoid treating any copied count as permanent. The safest phrasing is “according to the current official directory” plus the date you checked it.
How to verify a name
Section titled “How to verify a name”Use the official directory, search for the person’s name, and read the directory notes carefully. If the question involves employment, teaching, examination, or current standing, do not rely on an old article or a search-result snippet. Go to the current official source.
